When you have a group of mice instead of just one mouse, you will find that they can prove to be more interesting than the other types of pets that most people are bound to keep

.

The first thing one should keep in consideration when one is choosing pet mice is their healthiness and general well being. You should be careful when you choose mice such that you don’t get those that will get sick or die in a short time. The best way to get the best pet mice would by choosing those that are active and have smooth clean coats as well as pink skin that are clean. Their eyes and noses should also be clear of any form of discharge. These are characteristics of healthy mice.

Mice are very friendly especially when they are trained at a tender age. You can be bale to hand feed them and even cuddle them if they received such training when they are young. You should also beware of the fact that when pet mice are normally skittish and sometimes can be a bit harder to handle than larger rodents of their species. With time however, they become relaxed and handling them can be done by even a five year old.

Pet mice have been known to have very few demands. They are very easy to care for as they do not require a lot of food or cleaning after. They can also be kept in relatively smaller spaces when compared to other types of pets. The disadvantage of pet mice is that they can only live for an average of about two years. Therefore, when you are keeping mice as pets, you should try and not get too attached to them because they will not live as long as other pets.

Since mice are nocturnal, they will seem to be more active at night than during the day. Because of their level of sociality, they are best kept as pets in groups. When you keep a single mouse as a pet, you will find that it will not seem as jovial as when it is kept with other mice. The best way to have a group of pet mice will be females. Female pet mice have been known to be easier to cater for than their male counterparts. If you intend to keep a larger group than a pair, it should not be a problem as long as you keep them in a cage that will have sufficient space.

If you are thinking of keeping a group of male pet mice, you should be able to provide a larger cage because the males are territorial and each of them would need to have their own space. If this is not done, there is a higher chance that a fight will ensure among the mice. Another factor that can lead to a fight is getting a new male pet mouse to join those that are already in a cage.

To be able to control the number of mice that you will have at a given time, it would be advisable to avoid grouping male and female pet mice together. This is because when they are kept together they tend to breed at an alarming rate. You will find that in less than half a year you may have over 15 pet mice if you have a pair of female and male mice together.
